As I Lay Last Year to Rest…

As I lay last year to rest,
I look back on the very best,
Of good times had and memories made;
All of which I would never trade.

In a tiny apartment it started out,
A little too small without a doubt,
But soon we settled in to our new home,
And found our place, no more to roam.

A year of transition, one might say;
In so many different, kind of ways.
Changes on the job, and back to school;
At many times, life did seem cruel.

It’s been a year of good and a year of bad;
With lots of smiles mixed with the sad.
So in with the new and out with the old,
Bring on the new year, let’s see it unfold.

No resolutions, only a single word;
Something inside must be stirred.
A theme, a mantra; or maybe it’s both.
For me, 2018 will be about “Growth.”

Growth as a husband. Growth as a Dad.
Growth within, to be a better man.
Growth in my career, growth as a friend;
Finding more time, to continue this trend.

Emotional growth and spiritual as well;
Ever closer to Christ, no time to dwell.
A daily reminder, a daily thought,
In everything I do, growth must be sought.

So as I lay last year to rest,
I look ahead to the very best,
Of family and friends and memories bliss
Of living each moment as it were a gift.
