Going in to this week, I’d like to share some thoughts, and hopefully encouragement, as we move deeper in to unknown of these unprecedented times. I was reading earlier in Matthew — It’s a verse that most of you will know by heart. Matt 6:34. “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.“
This is a scripture that I’ve seen many times over the past few weeks (mostly on social media) as believers and non-believers alike search for comfort. As believers, we know that verse 34 is made possible through verse 33.

That “therefore” is not there by chance; it’s a key word in this scripture and it means, consequently. The action on our part here is “seek”. By seeking the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, we can claim the result. The result being trusting that He is in control and not worrying about what tomorrow may bring.

As I read the note attached to v.34, I found something that I had written years ago. Trust = The opposite of Worry. We don’t often think of it that way — but we should. By trusting instead of worrying, we can rest assured in His assurance to be right beside us through the trials of life. In other words, and to tie this back to David’s lesson on Wednesday — When we trust, we take refuge in Him.
Look what happens when we trust instead of worry. Psalm 27:7. “The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.“

As well as Psalm 37:39-40. “But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them and deliver them; He shall deliver them from the wicked, And save them, Because they trust in Him.

There’s another key word in case you missed it, “because”. He is able to give us refuge, because we trust in Him.
To circle back where we started, isn’t it great to know that He is our strength, He is our help, He is our shield, He is our refuge — all because we do the opposite of worry during these times — all because we seek and trust in Him.
As we start this week, may we all continue to Seek Him. To Trust Him. And to accept the resulting refuge that only He can give.
